I had an idea yesterday…
I had an idea yesterday which I want to ‘float’ publicly:
I don’t want to overcomplicate user interface of FuturixImager (in fact one of the goals for version 6 is to make it simple and clear), but still there are some advanced settings that should be made available as some people might need them. So I’m thinking about writing a separate utility that will expose those settings – the utility that will be available from this website, but not included with Imager itself.
What do you think?

I think that having a separately installed plug-in pack for any features that aren’t image browsing, image rotation and file renaming/moving would be enough for simplicity. It might be a good idea to make them installable individually from withing the app – it would make it somewhat more complex, but user experience would probably improve.

My current plan is to have separate installers for all major plug-ins: file browser (in 6.1), editor, raw camera formats support; plus one big “pack” for everything else. Plug-ins in Imager 6 are no longer dependant on exact version of Imager itself (like they do in 5.x) so it makes sense to separate frequently updated ones to their own installers (and some plug-ins, like raw camera formats, will be updated very often).

From a user perspective it would be nice to have a basic version with just futuriximager and an ultimate version with all the plugins pre-installed into the exe.
Having just tried your app for the first time one thing immediately noticed was missing was some kind of “send to” or “open with” function so that I could open a particular image in my 3rd party editor.

I have “open with” on my TODO list – so that should be added to Imager eventually.

As a long time user of IrfanView this is the first image viewer that I think is becoming a worthy replacement. I have only a few issues.
1. I like 5.9.4 option menu layout better than beta 5
2. Need option to make viewer fit to image size but not overflow the screen
3. Be able to hide menu bar and add it to right click context menu list
4. A mouse over feature to unhide toolbar and status bar (checkout FastPictureViewer)
I can’t wait to test out version 6, I have high hopes. I like the idea of small plugin packs to add features a user needs. This way it keeps the core program small and allows users to create addons as well through the SDK.

1. Do you mean “Options” dialog? And what exactly do you dislike?
2. This is one of the few things that I can confidently say will never be a part of FuturixImager. I hated this in IrfanView back in 1999 and that’s one of the reasons why I started my own viewer.
3. I have this planned for version 6.1
4. No promises about that, I have large improvements planned for that area, but I generally dislike anything “auto-hiding” or “auto-unhiding”.
